I thought there was a span of time where it was the barrel rather than the receiver, but probably acquired that mixed up While using the 1890 info. Many thanks for clearing that one up. I am however interested by the reasoning behind the WP’s use at that point in the game. Chris

Ned Schwing mentioned in his reference reserve about the Model 1890 & 1906 that Winchester commenced evidence marking them in 1908… I have no idea if which is exact, but will believe that it is. The “WP” evidence mark was applied after the barrel and receiver were being mated, assembled and completed. This is very obvious on the firearms manufactured inside the late teenagers by way of early 30s in the event the blue flaked (popped) off if the proof was struck around the receiver frame.
